Our simple guide for the show season.  Part I – What to wear.

With the show season upon us its time to start dusting off our kit and planning for the season ahead. With many different classes it can be rather confusing deciding what you should wear.  Our simple guide outlines the basics for each category, to ensure you’re the top contenders in your class!  Further information can be found at and

Show pony & Intermediate Show Riding Type

Lead Rein & First Ridden:

  • Navy show Jacket – with buttonhole
  • Canary jodhpurs
  • Brown jodhpur boots (Black acceptable)
  • Brown Leather gloves
  • Shirt and tie
  • Rider hair bows


Dress code is as above.  When progressing into Intermediate classes top boots are worn and are preferable to gaiters or half chaps. Intermediate riders should have their hair in a bun.  Scrunchies may be worn but again discreet ! “Bling” is not encouraged!

Show Hunter Pony & Mountain & Moorland:

Lead rein & First ridden 

  • Tweed show jacket – Discreet or no velvet collar (collars permitted – navy with blue/green tweed or brown with brown tweed)
  • Beige or canary jodhpurs
  • Brown jodhpur boots
  • Hair ribbons should be ‘quiet’ in colour

M&M Specific:

  • Long riding boots (adults)
  • Short Brown jodhpur boots & jod clips (for under 16 riders or adults on small breeds)
  • Velvet hat or velvet hat cover
  • Hairnet
  • Shirt (white, coloured or striped)
  • Tie (discreet to match jacket)
  • Brown or Black plain gloves
  • Brown or black show cane

Ridden Cob Classes:

  • Tweed show jacket
  • Shirt & tie (with pin)
  • Beige Jodhpurs
  • Brown/fawn/neutral leather gloves
  • Long black riding boots
  • Spurs (can be dummy spurs)
  • Beagler or velvet cap
  • Show cane

Working Hunter Classes:

  • Tweed showing jacket
  • Canary/beige jodhpurs
  • Juniors- Brown jodhpur boots
  • Int/Seniors – long black leather boots with garter straps
  • Stock or tie in a toning colour
  • Tan or brown gloves
  • Hairnet – scrunchies and ribbons permitted

Hack Classes:

  • Navy show jacket ( Tweed for men)
  • Shirt, tie & pin
  • Beige/cream/canary jodhpurs
  • Long black riding boots with garter straps
  • Spurs (dummy spurs allowed)
  • Brown or beige gloves
  • Navy velvet hat or beagler
  • Brown cane
